Unlocking 24-7 Solar with Caelux: Bringing Speed-To-Power and Lowest Cost Electricity Power for the AI Revolution

Caelux March 2026

American energy consumption is soaring after decades of relatively stable demand. We are now experiencing the fastest growth in electricity consumption in half a century.[1] New data centers, manufacturing facilities, and electrification are increasing energy demand, putting increased pressure on our grid, and raising prices for consumers. Every AI query, autonomous vehicle training run, and cloud computing operation requires massive amounts of electricity. Data centers alone are projected to consume an ever-growing share of our nation’s power, and AI workloads are among the most energy-intensive applications to have been deployed at scale (see Figure 1).

Figure 1: US power demand from data centers expected to more than double[2]

The consequences of this surge are already visible: grid strain, rising electricity prices for consumers, and urgent questions about how we’ll meet tomorrow’s energy needs with yesterday’s infrastructure, not to mention geopolitical externalities that governments are facing.

Caelux + Solar

One solution to the growing demand for power is the rise of solar electricity, which is rising fast with 79% of all new generation capacity added to the U.S. grid in 2025 coming from solar and energy storage.[3] Caelux is amplifying solar’s potential to meet the energy shortfall via our proprietary perovskite technology. We are enabling two power generation layers in a solar module resulting in more power, more energy, and lower costs. The commercialization of Caelux’s technology is coming at the right time. The United States Energy Information Administration expects “that the “growing electricity demand will be met mainly through increased solar”.[4]  Hyperscalers and major technology companies are meeting this expectation by increasingly purchasing clean energy to power AI, with solar leading the way.[5]

Caelux Technology Overview

Caelux delivers the lowest cost form of new energy generation by transforming the top glass of solar modules into a second power generation layer (see Figure 2). Our proprietary Active Glass technology increases energy density by 30% and reduces LCOEs (levelized cost of electricity) by 20% or more. We are redefining the future of energy by unlocking both speed-to-power and providing the strongest economics in energy generation.

Caelux technology is easily integrated into existing PV module manufacturing lines with limited Capex and line modifications making the technology plug and play with the existing infrastructure that has been built up globally. This is important as it enables rapid scaling leveraging the hundreds of GWs of manufacturing capacity globally and the 64.8GW of US manufacturing capacity that continues to grow each year.[6] Further, enabling speed-to-power is that there are no changes to the installation process – just higher power density which means less land and less labor required to build a solar facility.

Solar + storage is the foundation of growing AI infrastructure

The cost of solar has fallen by 84% since 2009, making it the most economical source of new electricity generation in most markets.[7] It now consistently generates lower-cost electricity than other generation sources, especially in America’s sunniest areas—precisely where many data centers are being built. Today, over 8% of US electricity comes from solar energy, and that number is rapidly climbing.4  Looking ahead, 72% of planned grid additions through 2030 are solar or storage.[8] For data center operators and AI companies, this matters enormously.

The missing piece for continued growth of solar electricity is making it available 24/7. This is largely an economic gap issue where the cost of 24 hour storage is too expensive. While this is where fossil fuels may have an advantage from a cost perspective, the historic price volatility and current geopolitical impacts make it difficult to forecast long-term all in pricing for fossil fuel power plants. In considering grid reliability, energy affordability, and the value of speed to power, bringing 24/7 solar online faster becomes an important consideration for powering data centers that want cost certainty. This is especially the case when new, advanced solar technologies are changing the economics of power deployment to meet growing loads.

Advanced solar technology: hybrid tandem modules to boost efficiency and drive down costs

Caelux hybrid tandem solar modules represent the next leap forward for widespread adoption and deployment of solar energy. When our Active Glass is paired with a solar module, the resulting hybrid tandem module can produce 30% more solar power than a conventional module. This changes the economics and can cover the economic gap to get to 24/7 solar faster.

The economics of hybrid tandem modules are transforming the cost structure of solar + storage solutions for data centers and the future grid. Even without policy incentives such as the investment tax credit or advanced manufacturing production tax credit, researchers at NREL calculated that hybrid tandem modules can be manufactured in the United States at approximately $0.35/W, with production costs ranging from $0.29/W to $0.42/W depending on efficiency levels between 25% and 30%.[9] This is in line with current conventional domestic solar modules that use a domestic solar cell and supply chain.   When system-level economics are considered the resulting levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) is significantly lower compared to traditional silicon solar modules. .

These costs are also likely to continue to decrease in the near future, based on corresponding price drops for silicon while perovskite precursors and equipment become more industrially standard.[10] The LCOE cost savings come from both the system economics and the factory economics. On the factory side, NREL researchers note that “a 2.5% absolute efficiency gain in a module provides the same reduction in cost per nameplate capacity as doubling the size of your factory.”[11] Today, Caelux technology already delivers this 2.5% gain over PERC solar technology and it will provide even more in the future.

Caelux + storage brings down LCOE

For data center operators evaluating solar + storage solutions, deployment times and cost are critical concerns. Solar projects are measured in months, compared to years for coal and gas, or decades for nuclear. In addition, by generating 30% more power from the same footprint, Caelux’s technology reduces the total number of modules, racking systems, and land area required—dramatically lowering both capital expenditures and balance-of-system costs that can be applied to additional energy storage lessening the economic gap to reach 24/7 solar

While Caelux speeds up the transition to 24/7 solar, it is also supported by falling lower battery pack prices, global and domestic competition, new storage technology, and improved systems designs that are improving the economics of storage. Researchers at Ember found that a combination of 6GW of solar modules and 17 GWh of battery storage could reliably deliver 1GW of electricity almost every hour of the year in a range of cities of the world, such as Las Vegas (97% of hours annually), Hyderabad (80-95%), and even Birmingham (62%).[12] The cost based on this model of 24/365 solar generation was $104/MWh, having fallen 22% from $132/MWh in the 12 months leading up to June 2025 due to a decrease in battery prices.[13] While still more expensive than gas, it is cheaper than new coal ($118/MWh) and nuclear ($182/MWh) (see Figure 3).[14]

Figure 3: 97% uninterrupted solar generation with battery compared with coal and nuclear[15]

At scale, Caelux unlocks 24/7 solar faster. When hybrid tandem efficiency gains are combined with falling battery costs, Caelux + storage becomes the superior option—in particular in regions that rely on imported fuel. The higher energy output from Caelux hybrid tandem modules equates to needing less battery capacity to achieve the same duration of power, or conversely, that the same battery investment can support longer-duration storage. This coupled with the LCOE savings directly addresses the cost gap identified in traditional solar + storage deployments, making 24/7 energy economically viable.

While the cost of fuel has historically been lower in the United States compared to regions like the EU and GCC, long lead times and a dearth of manufacturing supply for combined cycle gas turbines become an impediment to meeting rising electricity demands.[16]

Caelux + 24/7 storage is the clear choice for addressing growing energy consumption

The AI revolution and the explosion in data center development represent both a challenge and an opportunity. The challenge is meeting unprecedented energy demand without breaking our grid and without significantly increasing energy costs. The opportunity is building a resilient, domestically-sourced energy infrastructure that will power American innovation for generations. Caelux paired with storage is not just a solution—it’s the best solution for meeting consumer and industry demand for energy in the most economical manner – it is the lowest cost form of new electricity. It’s also the fastest to deploy and it’s immune to fuel price volatility. Caelux’s technology is being manufactured at scale today in the United States. We are fulfilling early commercial orders and are poised to deliver 24/7 solar that is needed to power data centers and the AI revolution. Caelux is delivering the future of energy.
