Over the last decade, supply chain professionals and companies have been exposed to a multitude of challenges, from geopolitical unrest and regional conflicts to disruptions caused by a global pandemic. The profound swings in supply and demand associated with these types of events, coupled with rapid changes in market stability, have taken a toll on global and regional supply chain infrastructure. In the face of these challenges, Caelux’s supply chain team is developing new approaches in both systems and processes to ensure the success of our operations; this is critical to bringing our perovskite Active Glass and the next generation of Hybrid-Tandem™ solar modules to the world. By creating a “locally embedded” supply chain infrastructure, Caelux can compete in the global solar marketplace while hedging against future risks.
Our approach to supply chain partnerships, joint ventures, manufacturing agreements, and PV module manufacturer collaboration involves building out an agile, resilient, and sustainable regional supply chain that ensures the success of our global operations on a regional level.
As Caelux invests in establishing manufacturing facilities across several geographical markets, it is increasingly critical that we have a strong, vetted group of suppliers in each of the geographic locations where we manufacture. This allows us to be agile in responding to and navigating critical items such as regional regulatory variability (i.e., duties or PLI incentives), market volatilities, and fluctuating shipping costs.
To ensure success, Caelux is crafting a world-class, regionally focused, supply chain that will enable us to achieve the following key objectives:
• Optimize Costs – Closely collaborating with local suppliers can support cost reduction efforts by minimizing storage fees, reducing shipping costs, hedging against inflation, and mitigating tariffs arising from cross-border shipments.
• Embrace Sustainable Solutions – We look for opportunities to reduce costs while making more sustainable choices. By sourcing local materials, we reduce shipping, which translates to fewer emissions and lower costs.
• Foster Innovation – By avoiding the standard “one size fits all”, approach to Supply Chain, Caelux ensures that innovation remains at the core of our culture, leading to improved products and process development.
• Contribute to Local Economies – Caelux aims to drive economic growth in local communities, expanding business relationships and creating regional jobs wherever we manufacture.
Our regional supply chain strategy creates a significant competitive advantage for our customers by ensuring we deliver on the following key pillars of a successful supply chain:
• Quality – Our process of carefully vetting local vendors through our vendor scorecard process ensures they meet high standards for quality that translate into enhanced performance and durability of Caelux’s Active Glass™ modules.
• On Time Delivery – Through smart inventory management and strategic redundancy, we deliver orders quickly and consistently across every marketplace.
Successful regional supply chains achieve a balance of cost, speed, and resilience by integrating local agility, end-to-end visibility, and alignment with global strategy.
Lastly, a strong vendor scorecard is essential to any regional supply chain strategy because it links supplier performance to regional goals—cost, efficiency, speed, reliability, and compliance—while ensuring ongoing performance tracking and continuous improvement.
At Caelux, we are establishing a robust vendor scorecard process to ensure success for our customers that incorporates the following six key elements:
1. Alignment with Regional Objectives
• A successful vendor scorecard ensures that supplier performance aligns with the region’s strategic goals — such as shorter lead times, regulatory compliance, or localized sourcing.
• It translates regional priorities (e.g. responsiveness, sustainability, quality) into measurable supplier KPIs.
2. Performance Transparency and Accountability
• Provides clear, data-driven visibility into supplier performance on metrics like on-time delivery, quality, cost, and flexibility.
• Encourages accountability and continuous improvement among regional vendors.
3. Risk Management and Resilience
• Supports regional resilience by highlighting suppliers capable of rapid recovery or adaptability during disruptions.
4. Data-Driven Decision Making
• Facilitates objective comparisons between suppliers across regions or categories.
• Informs sourcing decisions, contract renewals, and vendor development initiatives with factual performance data.
5. Strengthening Collaboration and Relationships
• Promotes constructive dialogue with suppliers based on shared performance insights.
• Builds trust and fosters strategic partnerships that enhance regional supply chain agility and innovation.
6. Continuous Improvement and Competitive Advantage
• Enables benchmarking within and across regions to drive higher standards.
• Helps regional operations continuously refine sourcing strategies and improve service levels.
The vendor scorecard is essential to a regional supply chain strategy because it aligns supplier performance with regional goals, drives accountability, mitigates risk, and supports data-driven decisions that strengthen overall supply chain resilience and responsiveness. When integrated with the core pillars of supply chain management—cost, quality, and on-time delivery—it significantly enhances operational success.
Caelux’s commitment to having strong supply chain management focused on high performing regional suppliers that share our pillars for success plays a key role in bringing Hybrid-Tandem™ solar modules to the market. We will continue to foster a diverse supply chain ecosystem that delivers best-in-class products while staying nimble and resilient.
